Boasting uninterrupted views over Scarborough's North Bay and situated only a short distance from many of the town's attractions, this hotel is the perfect base when visiting the Yorkshire Coast. North Bay is ideal for families with a host of activities all year round, including Peasholm Park, offering pedal boats, shows and the famous Navel Warfare and the striking pyramids of Scarborough Sea Life Centre where you can go beneath the sea, coming face-to-face with everything from shrimps to sharks. At the end of your day, you can relax and watch the world go by in the large hotel lounge or the traditional British bar, where you can enjoy your favourite tipple whilst watching the large screen TVs.
With inspirational views across the North Sea and Scarborough's magnificent castle headland, it's easy to see how First World War poet Wilfred Owen was inspired to write some of his most famous works at the hotel. In late 1917 Owen was posted to a reserve battalion, based at The Clifton Hotel, (then known as The Clarence Gardens Hotel). Whilst here, he was able to take time away from his clerical duties and escape to his turret bedroom where he produced "Miners", the first of his poems to be published. Renowned for its warm Yorkshire welcome, The Clifton Hotel boasts many return guests. It offers a wide range of bedroom types, in both traditional and contemporary styles and a restaurant known for its high quality Yorkshire fare, using fresh produce. The hotel's elegant Castle Ballroom also offers a delightful setting for social functions from Cocktail Parties to Birthday Parties, from Wedding Receptions to Dinner Dances.
